Our First Season at Kona Hills: A Year to Remember

A slow build, a strong start

When we opened Kona Hills Campground this summer, we knew we weren’t chasing perfection — we were building something lasting. Our goal from day one has been to grow slowly and intentionally, creating a place that feels wild, genuine, and welcoming.

This first season proved that approach works. From the first reservation to the last campfire, every guest, volunteer, and supporter helped us turn eighty wooded acres above Lake Superior into a living, breathing campground community.

A Season of Firsts

From setup to shutdown, 2025 gave us more firsts than we can count:

  • Our first campers, who trusted us enough to try something new.

  • Our first wildlife encounters — bears, eagles, and one particularly photogenic porcupine.

  • Our first full weekend, when every site was booked. By far one of our favorite things was seeing other people enjoy the space and admiring all the different camping setups!

  • Our first lessons learned specially the importance of kiln dried firewood! We make an effort to chat with campers and ask for honest feedback which allows us to adjust quickly. Thanks to everyone who shared their experience and ideas!

Each one taught us something that will shape next season.

What We’re Most Proud Of

What makes us proud isn’t just how many people camped here — it’s how they camped.

  • Guests respected the land and left no trace.

  • Campsites stayed peaceful and clean.

  • People told us it felt “like being deep in the woods, but still close to town.”

That balance — rugged yet accessible — is exactly what we hoped to create.

Thank You

To everyone who booked a stay, spread the word, lent a hand, or simply believed in this idea: thank you. You helped launch something that will keep growing, season after season.

We’re already working on small but mighty improvements for 2026 — stay tuned!

This is just the beginning, and we’re grateful to be building it with you.

Enjoy some snapshots from our first year of making things happen!

Behind every number in the infographic is a story — campers finding peace in the pines, families discovering new trails, friends sharing a fire under the stars. These stats aren’t just measurements; they’re milestones.
