Rustic campgrounds like Kona Hills are perfect for campers who value privacy, space, and a deep connection with nature—but we understand this style of camping may not be for everyone. Our campground offers a minimalist, nature-immersed experience for those looking to disconnect and explore the outdoors.
Natural Setting
Located in rustic area with a strong focus on preserving the surrounding wilderness
Situated near hiking trails, providing access to outdoor activities like wildlife watching
Basic Facilities
Vault Toilets – Simple, non-flush restrooms for campers' use.
Potable Water – Available via hand-pump well at the Welcome Area
Fire Pits & Picnic Tables – Each site comes equipped with a fire ring and a wooden picnic table
Absence of Modern Conveniences
No Electrical Hookups – Campers should bring battery-powered gear or solar chargers
No Dump Stations – Rustic campgrounds do not have septic systems for grey and black water disposal
No Showers-as a rustic campground we do not offer showers, though we would like to in future seasons. Check our FAQ page for public showers nearby.
No Wi-Fi – Most of the property has 5G and cell phone coverage.

1. Vehicle & Trailer Limit
Due to steep grades, rustic sites built into hillsides and rock outcroppings, and limited turnaround space, all vehicles and trailers must be 24 feet or shorter. None of our sites are pull-through. Guests are responsible determining if they can safely handle their camping setup. Give us a call if you’d like to talk things through!
2. Generators
Gas generators are not allowed. Please keep the rustic experience in mind. Solar or battery-powered solutions are acceptable.
3. Lake Superior Overlook Closure
The Lake Superior Overlook (aka “The Rock Cut”) is currently closed while we work to provide safe access. Guests will not access or use this trail and will respect all posted signage.
4. Department of Corrections Shooting Range
Kona Hills is within earshot of this operation. While we cannot control usage times, the range is typically active during daytime hours. Noise is out of our control, and we aim to limit disruption whenever possible.
