    Natural Setting

    • Located in remote areas with a strong focus on preserving the surrounding wilderness

    • Situated near hiking trails, providing access to outdoor activities like wildlife watching

    Basic Facilities

    • Portable Toilets – Simple, non-flush restrooms for campers' use. We are working on upgrading our bathrooms for next season.

    • Potable Water – Available via hand-pump well at the Welcome Area

    • Fire Pits & Picnic Tables – Each site comes equipped with a fire ring and a wooden picnic table

    Absence of Modern Conveniences

    • No Electrical Hookups – Campers should bring battery-powered gear or solar chargers

    • No Dump Stations – Rustic campgrounds do not have septic systems for grey and black water disposal

    • No Wi-Fi – Due to the remote nature of rustic campgrounds, internet access is unavailable. However, Kona Hills is conveniently located near Marquette, and most of the property has full cell phone coverage.

  • Kona Hills Campground is locally built and privately owned, state licensed campground. 2025 if our first year of operating. We’re starting simple and with each season we will continue to grow, improve and build on what’s here.

Here are things to be aware of before you book:

    • Temporary, portable bathrooms: For our inaugural season, Kona Hills will feature portable bathroom facilities. We are working on permeant amenities for the 2026 season.

    • 24 foot length limit: Due to our steep grades, rustic sites set into hillsides and rock outcroppings, and limited turn around space, we have a strict 24’ length limit for all vehicles and trailers. None of our sites are pull-through and there is limited turn around space.

    • No gas generators: Please keep the rustic experience in mind. Solar powered solutions are acceptable.

    • Lake Superior Outlook is closed: While Kona Hills features incredible views of the UP, the Lake Superior Overlook, aka “The Rock Cut”, is closed while we work on providing safe access.

    • Department of Corrections Shooting Range: We are within earshot of this operation. While we have no control over the when this area is used, it is typically during daytime hours. We hope to limit noise in the future.
