A Rustic Camping Experience—Done Intentionally
Kona Hills is a thoughtfully designed rustic campground that prioritizes space, privacy, and connection to the land. While it feels like you’re miles away from everything, we’re located just 3 miles from downtown Marquette—offering a rare balance of seclusion and convenience.
Camping stripped back to the essentials: natural landscapes, quiet moments, and room to breathe.
-
Rustic doesn’t mean neglected. At Kona Hills, it means intentional simplicity and low-impact development that allows the land to lead.
Guests can expect:
No water, sewer, or electrical hookups
Clean, maintained vault toilets (no flush toilets or showers)
Natural roads, campsites, and trails with uneven terrain
Changing outdoor conditions like weather, mud, and wildlife
A self-sufficient experience—bring what you need to be comfortable
Our goal is to preserve the character of the land while offering a calm, well-managed place to camp.
-
Campsites at Kona Hills are intentionally spaced to provide privacy and a sense of seclusion. You won’t find rows of tightly packed sites here.
Most campsites are separated by:
Trees and natural vegetation
Elevation changes in the landscape
Thoughtful placement that minimizes sightlines and noise between sites
The result is a quieter, more personal camping experience—where you can enjoy your time outdoors without feeling like you’re camping on top of your neighbors.
-
Kona Hills feels like a true “middle of the woods” campground, yet it’s located just 3 miles from downtown Marquette.
This means:
Easy access to groceries, restaurants, and fuel
Quick trips to Lake Superior, trailheads, and local attractions
The ability to enjoy nature without committing to a fully remote trip
Because of our proximity to town, guests may occasionally hear faint road noise or intermittent noise from a nearby Department of Corrections shooting range during intermittent use. These sounds are typically brief, but we believe in being transparent so you can decide if Kona Hills is the right fit.
-
Kona Hills is a great fit for guests who value simplicity, privacy, and thoughtful land stewardship.
You’ll likely enjoy Kona Hills if you:
Appreciate rustic camping without resort-style amenities
Value space and privacy between campsites
Are comfortable being self-sufficient
Want a quiet place to unplug that’s still close to town
Kona Hills may not be the right fit if you:
Prefer full hookups, flush toilets, or on-site showers
Expect a completely silent or fully remote backcountry experience
Want paved roads, dense campsites, or a highly social campground
Our goal is to create a positive experience for guests who align with this style of camping—and to be upfront so expectations are clear from the start.
