A Rustic Escape, Minutes from Marquette

Perched 200 feet above Lake Superior, just minutes from downtown Marquette, Michigan, Kona Hills Campground offers a secluded, off-the-beaten-path camping experience. Spanning 80 acres of rugged Upper Peninsula wilderness, our privately owned campground is designed for campers who crave solitude, adventure, and a true connection to nature.

Perfect for Tent, Truck, Car & Van Campers

Kona Hills is uniquely suited for tent campers, truck campers, car campers, and van lifers—offering a quiet, rustic setting that’s perfect for those who appreciate seclusion and simplicity. Unlike many campgrounds with tightly packed sites or rows of RVs, we provide well-spaced, vehicle-accessible and walk-in sites so you can truly unwind in nature.

Tent Campers – Enjoy spacious, private sites nestled deep in the forest, away from the distractions of crowded campgrounds.

Truck, Car & Van Campers – We offer easy-access drive-in sites for self-sufficient vehicle camping, while still maintaining a peaceful, off-grid atmosphere.

A True Rustic Escape – No hookups, no concrete pads—just nature, fresh air, and plenty of space to call your own.

Our Vision

Kona Hills was founded on the idea that camping should be an authentic outdoor experience—without rows of crowded RVs or the distractions of modern life. While we are licensed as a rustic campground, we provide the essentials for a comfortable stay in the wild.

What Makes Us Unique?

  • Unmatched Seclusion – With only 40 campsites spread across 80 acres, you’ll never feel cramped.

  • Ideal for Tent, Truck, Car & Van Camping – We provide a perfect mix of walk-in tent sites and vehicle-friendly spots, so all campers can enjoy a rustic retreat.

  • Close to Adventure – While it feels remote, we’re just minutes from Marquette, offering easy access to hiking, biking, paddling, and local attractions.

  • A Commitment to Sustainability – Our water source is a deep artesian well, and we are continuously working on sustainable practices to preserve this incredible landscape for future generations.

What to Expect in 2025

As a newly opened campground, amenities will be limited in our first season as we focus on developing the land with care. For 2025, campers can expect:

  • Hand-pump potable water from a deep artesian well

  • Portable toilets

  • Fire rings & picnic tables at each site

  • A mix of walk-in and drive-in sites (including 8 drive-in capable sites at launch)

  • Miles of private hiking trails

Future upgrades will include bathhouses, a sauna, year-round glamping, and expanded trail access, but for now, Kona Hills is all about embracing the beauty of rustic camping.
