Rustic Camping Above Lake Superior
2025 Season Dates: May 30 - October 19
40 secluded campsites, 80 acres of forest, and Lake Superior just minutes away in the heart of Marquette county—welcome to the camping experience you've been dreaming of.
Our first season begins
Kona Hills is locally built and privately owned—and 2025 is just the beginning. What you see today is Phase 1 of a bigger vision. We’re starting simple, and with each season we’ll continue to grow, improve, and build on what’s here. Thanks for camping with us in these early days—it means a lot to have your support as this place takes shape.
On-Site Amenities
Water
Fresh, artesian water is available for campers at the welcome area via a hand pump well. Fill water bottles, containers and more. There is no hose hook up anywhere on site.
Bathrooms
The 2025 season will feature temporary portable bathrooms. We are in the process of upgrading these facilities and hope to open them for the 2026 season.
Fire Pit & Picnic Table
Each site features a double walled fire pit and picnic table. Local firewood is available for purchase at the welcome area.
Things to know before you book for 2025
-
Temporary, portable bathrooms
For our inaugural season, Kona Hills will feature portable bathroom facilities. We are working on permeant amenities for the 2026 season.
-
No vehicles or trailers over 24' & no gas generators
Kona Hills is a rustic campground meaning there are no electric or water hookups and no gas generators allowed. Our entrance is steep limiting access to recreational vehicles and trailers to 24’ and under. There are several other Marquette Campgrounds that cater to large RVs that you can find here.
-
Lake Superior Outlook is Closed
While Kona Hills features incredible views of the UP, the Lake Superior Overlook, aka “The Rock Cut”, is closed while we work on providing safe access.
-
Intermittent Noise
Our campground is located within earshot of a Department of Corrections shooting range. While we have no control over the when this area is used, it is typically during daytime hours. We hope to limit noise in the future.
